TEACHING CASES

Teaching Cases

The DEI4SME team is working on creating a collection of cases and teaching guides on DEI management in SMEs to enable teaching social responsibility in business, raise awareness among the higher education institutions and SMEs about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and its effects on firm’s success, and help other institutions (chambers of commerce, vocational education institutions (VET), and SMEs) foster social responsibility for their needs.

The teaching cases and teaching notes will be published on this website and in the peer-reviewed book. The teaching cases will cover the following themes:

  • How to raise awareness on DEI issues in SMEs among peer managers and employees?
  • How to use DEI to support SMEs growth and strategy implementation?
  • How to solve DEI-related conflicts in the SMEs?

THE UPCOMING BOOK ON:
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Small and Medium Enterprises
(Open Access, Publisher Edward Elgar Publishing)

The book will offer a framework and managerial perspectives, presented as teaching cases, to understand diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in European small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The book aims to develop competencies for entrepreneurs (to-be-)operating in Europe, enabling them to leverage DEI for SME growth, strategy implementation, regulatory compliance, and conflict resolution. The manager reflections captured in the book will raise awareness of DEI opportunities and challenges in resource-constrained European SMEs, highlighting the need to balance national identity, significant demographic changes, and SME business needs. Insights  will be drawn from international surveys, interviews, and workshops, providing a realistic view of European SMEs and underrepresented groups. Multi-sided reflections on DEI in European SMEs will contribute to further understanding of managing intersectionality and achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
